Explanation:

Providing furniture to those in need.  The idea is simple.  The effect is profound.  Cribs.  Because parents can't bring new babies home without one.  Dining tables.  Where families torn apart by disaster can come back together.   Beds.  Because women and children escaping abusive relationships shouldn't have to sleep on the floor.

The Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan is so vital to the poor that live in our communities.  2008 will be a record year for helping families in crisis - we anticipate serving over 3,400 families!  That certainly is good news but the waiting list is very long - over 1,100 families in Oakland County and 400 in Macomb are still waiting to get the help they need.  There isn't enough furniture to meet the demand.

Start your spring cleaning early!  The Furniture Bank is desperately low on furniture to give to families in crisis.  They need you to spread the word!  A pick up service is available in most of Oakland and Macomb counties for basic items such as a sofa, mattress set, dresser, kitchen table, baby crib and large appliances like washers and dryers, stoves and refrigerators.  We also welcome other household goods like linens, pots and pans, dishes, etc.  Anything that makes a house a home!
