Cannot Send Email - blocked ports

I am suddenly unable to send email, although I can receive it with no problem. It appears my "ports" have been blocked somewhere along the line.

Anyone have a similar problem or know what to do?

I am using the standard mac "Mail" program, although I don't think that is the issue. Spent several hours last night in a live chat with the tech support from my website, but to no avail - all is well on that end.

I've deleted the outgoing mail server configurations and re-built them - still no resolution.

Hi Linda!

I see you have 14 viewers on this post, but no answers!  I wish I had an answer for you!  Why don't you try contactng Henry Joshua here on MCC.  If anyone will know... he just may!

Good luck & I am feeling your pain!

Thanks for the suggestion, Jennifer - As of Sunday evening, I am now in direct communication with the Senior VP of Customer Relations at Comcast (the offending ISP who blocked me).

You know what they say - take it to the top!

Linda

Linda,

Since you are using Comcast, it may be you need to change the port #. I couldn't tell you if this issue affects Mac mail (maybe the big wig you are speaking with can help), however I was directed to change my email accounts (windows/outlook) to reflect port # 587 for outgoing mail. I believe the change was to resolve some security issue. Beyond this, my technical troubleshoot capability is exhausted.

Dale - that was the first solution. Then they blocked port 587 as well, so now I can't use the outgoing email server through my website at all, and am reduced to sending business mail through Comcast...

You say " I believe the change was made to resolve some security issue" - -  the truth is that spammers have hijacked your email address, and the ISP's (such as Comcast) are not putting controls into place to require the SPF records that would stop all this foolishness.

I know it's not an easy thing to do, but punishing innocent people like you and me for the acts of the unscrupulous and criminal is not effective "customer service."

Thanks for chiming in - when this is resolved, I will pass the info on to you so you can reclaim your email as well.
