So Catherine, how is Detroit's Feng shui? You should tweet on that! I love going into the city to play! Going to Slows and then a pub crawl in a few weeks. My mouth is watering! OK, this is off topic. I'm out.
Charlie, Twitter never made sense to me from day one. (Gasp, the emperor has no clothes!) I have a Twitter account I almost never use, although it may still be linked to my Facebook account. Facebook and LinkedIn comprise my entire social media world.
I use twitter and facebook almost exclusively. Twitter is a medium to meet people, gather news and information while I use facebook to keep in touch with people I already know.
Having started a business 2 years ago without knowing anyone in Michigan, I can say with proof, that twitter generates business but it takes longer to develop. (Disclaimer: Aside from posting blog articles, I do not use twitter as a marketing tool, only a relationship tool)
I also use twitter in the same way for an existing business and have generated new accounts through it's use.
It's always a win when I don't have to get dressed up or put on make up but I can still have a social/chatty evening. LOL
So I continue to use it and always find it amazing when other's don't see the same results. I can't help but wonder if they didn't give it enough time, don't understand the "social" back and forth aspect of it or perhaps they just don't need the extra business.
I tried using Twitter for my business purposes, but instead of reaching any of my potential customers, all I got was contact with people in my field. There are advantages to that, such as sharing of professional information, but it became overwhelming and time-consuming and wasn't what I had been looking for.
Facebook has been a good way to contact with a particular portion of my potential customers. The largest portion of my customers, though, don't seem to be on any social media sites at all.
