Networking House Parties?

I am thinking of having a social meet-and-greet/networking/resume-swap event at my home for my network of personal and professional contacts (online and in the "real world").
Has anyone done anything like this before? Good idea/bad idea? Advice?

Jeff, I "second" Raechel's suggestion.
I've attended several Euchre Nights and found them to be great networking! All of them were tied to a charity - we paid $20 to attend, and were asked to bring "finger food" to share with the group. All the funds collected went to the charity, but when someone gets "Euchred" they put a quarter in a jar, and at the end of the night the person with the best score was awarded the quarters... I won $18 at one event... and promptly added it to the fund for the charity.
It's great fun, great networking, and when it's for a worthy cause, everyone is engaged.
