Employment Ask: Seeking A Sales Position

Hello, my fellow MCCers -

Objective: Full-time Sales position, preferably with salary base or draw, as opposed to straight commission right from the outset

Most of my experience is in insurance industry - not at all locked into that arena, though.  Open to options other than sales, but putting focus there.

My Long Term Care planning practice is not going away, I will continue to build it in the background.

Resume is online here:

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

Hi Sam,

I'm a certified resume writer.  I looked at your resume and I see some problems with it. You state in your summary that you have a track record of building relationships and sales.  However, you only state one job with an accomplishment to support this. You state a bunch of other jobs that aren't clearly sales positions.  What I'm getting at here is that your attempt at personal branding isn't very well supported.  You need strong personal branding that can be well supported if your resume is to be regarded as credible.  I know this is self promotion on my part but I sincerely think you should consider professional help with this. It's hard enough to get your resume past HR clerks who don't understand what you do and how to match you up with a position, and computers that scan for pre-determined key words, before you finally get it in front of someone who might spend 10 - 15 seconds deciding if they should read the whole thing!

Michael,

Thank you for your suggestions - excellent points!  I'm glad you called my attention to this.  I recently trimmed the resume down to the extreme for one particular situation per a special request, but then neglected to change it back.

I welcome any further thoughts you have - whether here or via PM.

Thanks again,

Sam

You're welcome.

1. Thank you - to each of you who offered an interview, forwarded my resume, gave suggestions, and shared encouragement.

2. Great news - I just completed my 1st week as an Account Executive at Invescor, Ltd., in Farmington Hills (profile update coming soon).  I couldn't be happier with this outcome.

3. I would be remiss if I didn't say a public "Thank you" to Ben Rosenzweig.  Ben and I met for the 1st time over lunch back in January at the encouragement of Danielle Workman (Birmingham/Bloomfield Chamber - thanks Danielle!).  He graciously gave me a few suggestions and introductions for my practice at the time.  But the capstone - the phone call I received a few weeks back that started "We have a position open, and Ben Rosenzweig suggested that we give you a call..." - Thank you Ben!

4. This is just one more example - you each have your own - that meeting people, making friends, and helping others pays immeasurable dividends.  Sometimes we're the helper, other times we're the helped.  The question is never "Who did more" or "Who did the most" the question is "Did I do what I could?"

Congratulations Sam. As a newbie here on MCC my suspicions have been relieved. I hope works well with Invescor. I would be interested in learning when/if any additional Sales Positions become available. I have a background in business development and have my P&C license.

Best regards,

Jim Cauzillo
