What's the best way to advertise an event?
We are looking for people interested in learning about becoming bodyguards. There are no licensing requirements in the State of Michigan, and therefore often times security specialists and executive protection people get a bad name because some of them out there doing the work really shouldn't be. No education and feel like its the Wild West. We're trying to put together a program that is licensed in Virginia but we're not sure how best to get the word out around here. Our 7 day intensive program is running the last week of May and we want to let "the world" know about it, but not sure if we should use newspapers or what? We have sent out info to other agencies in the state that work with the security industry, but how do we get to the people that want the opportunity to get into this exciting profession?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

1. I would start with clearly identifying what kind of people you want (instead of anyone and everyone)
2. Once you identify the above "who" then I would identify the venues where they are present / accessible...
Example of 1 thought process - Bodyguards need to be strong, strong means need work out so I will advertise at fitness centers.
If you identify the effective places, your marketing and advertising cost will be very minimal instead of diluting your efforts by generically placing an Ad in news paper or so.
One other cost effective thought being involved with strategic branding and Web design business [DotSign] - there are tons of free Fitness web forums, Job search engines etc you could even leverage Social Media for this - Low cost in terms of $ but the flip side is Social media is not so "specific" driven.
