The power of helping one another
I just sent this blast:
So many people in networking situations (both online and off) focus way too much on what they do. Newsflash, that's not engaging. Why you do it, who you do it for, what benefit people receive when you're done doing it...these are conversations. That's what business development in the NOW economy is all about. Don't believe me? Take some guesses as to why Facebook is eating Linkedin's lunch in terms of growth and participation. Not enough?? Look at twitter! They're kicking butt and they ask the wrong question: "What are you doing?" Here's a tip for the newbies...nobody really cares what you're doing! You want to know what people care about? Read above.
I want you all to be wildly successful in life. Wildly. I want people around the globe hearing about what a great COMMUNITY Detroit is. That won't happen without each of us taking an interest in the rest of us.
It starts with you. Can you come to this board and offer some assistance to those asking for it? Will you give us the opportunity to help you by telling us what we can do for you? How about joining us at a meeting? We would love to see you out and about.
Ask for HELP # 1
I caught an interesting post by Catherine Juon on the board today that I wanted to highlight. Turns out one of our neighbors is in the running for Entrepreneur of the Year as voted on by Entrepreneur Magazine. What a boon it would be for our great state if Michelle Crumm walked away with that honor. We need your Vote. Click the link under post. Read the story. Vote. Share the link! We can do it.
Speaking of our Great State...It's almost time to Celebrate Michigan
September 29 is a Tuesday and it is a day you will want to clear on your calendar. There is a great event taking place in Troy and you are all cordially invited. Best part...It is FREE!!! Come on out. Meet some people. If your daring, get a booth, be a sponsor or donate something for the Silent Auction. Jan and Marshall Rice would be happy to hear from you.
While we're on the topic of cool Tuesdays
Next Tuesday is a BIG day. I'm doing an intro to networking class at 10:00 and there are two MCC live events. The first one is lunch at the Royal Oak location where Lori Williams coined the name "MCC Live" from 11:15-12:45. The next meeting is at Bailey's in Troy for a MCC happy hour. Complete with $2.00 drafts and a beer pong table (that's for the advanced networkers).
Two great events tomorrow as well
Our normal MCC Live Commerce kicks off at 8:00 a.m. conveniently hidden at the Big Boy in Walled Lake. This breakfast meeting is a $5.00 meeting. Anything you order from Big Boy is on you.
5 Time Emmy Winner Shawne Duperon and I will get together to provide you with tons of information on how to buzz your business. Shawne's expertise is showing you how to gett the media to take notice of what you're doing. I know a thing or two about networking and I will be sharing that knowledge. Details and RSVP HERE.
Thank you for being a part of Motor City Connect. Do let us know what we can do for you. That is step 2 in the power of helping one another.

Terry, I think I should be on your list of the top 100 networkers. Secondly, I look for all opportunities to help others out. I live here in Lansing, but I am in Detroit almost every weekend and am always giving Detroit as many shout-outs as often as possible. Let me know if I can assist you in anyway.
All the best,
Tanya R. Bates
