I Have a BIG Ask!
If you haven't heard yet, Time Magazine's Assignment Detroit was kicked off in September (www.time.com/detroit). They purchased a home in the Edison District and have reporters living there, writing articles about our great city.
Their contact info is not very easy to find, for numerous reasons I'm sure, but I would like to at least get an e-mail for one of the free lance writers currently on assignment. They are:
Karen Dybis
Steven Gray
Darrell Dawsey
Reason: There is a fantastic non-profit working in SW Detroit started by a woman, Angela Reyes, who was tired of "burying Detroit's children". After forging a truce with several gang leaders she encouraged them to retire in exchange for jobs in various Hispanic-owned manufacturing companies in Detroit. They have grown to include many great programs serving over 5000 of this area's youth, families, etc.
I believe it's a story they wouldn't want to miss. If anyone has contact info for Karen, Steve or Darrell I would like to hear from them.
Thanks for your help!

Deana - This is Great to bring to the light for the members here on MCC! I heard about this and wondered how I could be apart of this and or meet these reporters. I am going to look into their contact info as I would hope everyone else does as well because they are going to be the eyes creating the window into Detroit for the world to see published throughout the pages of Time and shown in the pics online.
Thanks Deana,
Keith Stonehouse
Very cool.
A friend of ours recently had a blog post of hers featured. I am going to share this with her and see if she can help.
Thanks!
Terry
Hi!
Terry sent me this link and I may be able to help. I have an email address for Karen Dybis and will forward this onto her. Karen featured my blog post "40 Things to Do in Detroit Before You're Dead" on The Detroit Blog and she seems very positive and interested in Detroit.
Deana - I'll send her your contact info and the story and let you know if I hear back from her.

Thanks Becks. Very cool of you indeed!
Thank you Becks! And thank you MCC for a forum where we can get such great help!
Deana,
Karen got back to me and said that it is now high on her radar and that she will follow up soon.
She has also given me the green light to give out her email address, so I'll send that to you as well.

Becks, You're the Best!
A real testimony to the power of Motor City Connect. Thank you very much.
Deana
Let us know when (not if) the story is published Deana.
Thanks Becks for helping out.
I haven't won TIME's person of the year since 2006 ;-) In fact, I think we're all due...again.
It would be cool to see MCC in Time.
Be connected-
Terry
UPDATE!!
Karen Dybis from Time interviewed the DHDC yesterday! I will post the link to her blog once it's ready.
Thanks again MCC and Becks for your help. Her coverage will do a great deal for this great organization who has made some big strides with gangs in SW Detroit.

Hi Deana:
When I saw your posting, I remembered that I saw a film about this woman as part of the 2008 Pahfest (http://www.pahnation.org/).
Here is the link to the video on youtube:

Perhaps you know about this video. The Pahfest is a film festival that gives community members the opportunity to work with professional filmmakers to create a short film about their selected story. I'm a freelance video producer and I was a "coach" for a group in the 2009 festival. Watching this film as the previous year's winner, I was very impressed with the integrity and determination of this woman, Angela Reyes. Maybe this video can be used in the Time story, if it's not too late.

Thank you Alison! This will be a great link to use in our marketing and communications efforts too. I will forward to Karen Dybis to let her know it's out there - maybe she can include in her article.
She hasn't posted anything yet and I think she's planning to make a couple more visits before she publishes anything.
Thanks again!

That's awesome Deana!
Thanks again for ASKing and getting this ball in motion.
Thank you too Becks. This doesn't happen without you ;-)
Wow! Deana, I got serious chills watching that video. That was a fabulous post, I'm so happy it's getting covered. Eyes are now opened!
Terry, you're most welcome but what I did was just a small thing. Happy to do it.
Deana, let's make sure we stay in touch. You can email me at becks@detroitmoxie.com.
