Hi All - new to MCC - a few questions
Hi all - My name is Kevin and while I have been actively following MCC for a while, it's been a challenge for me to get out to some of the networking events, but luckily I have refocused my energy and look forward to getting out to meet you all soon. I had a few questions I was hoping to have answered, but before I do, a bit of background on me, I am a recent graduate of Grand Valley State University (Dec. 2009) and graduated in just over 3 years with a degree in Sports Marketing. I currently work for a sports marketing company part-time, (in pay only) and wanted to get involved with some of the "movers and shakers" in metro Detroit. In my first internship I served as a digital promotions intern at the Farmington Chamber of Commerce, so networking is not entirely new to me, but I have not experienced it from this side (yet).
My first question to you all would be this: What events do you find most useful for true networking and meeting people? As much as I would enjoy attending all events (very sad I was unable to attend BSG), I am realistic enough to admit I will not be able to be at every one, and want to prioritize which events I "can't miss".
Next, my question would be to all of you: do you participate in other chamber of commerce or networking events? Or just MCC? If yes, where?
Finally: Sorry if this is a bit of a touchy question but as many of you can relate to, money is tight coming out of college.. Do your employers pick up the tab for your networking events? Is it considered appropriate to ask them to do so?
Thats all - Thank you all in advance for your help on these... I am looking forward to getting involved and meeting you guys.

Hi Kevin-
All good questions.
I would attend the next one in Royal Oak. That tends to have the best attendance and you will get the most bang for your buck.
Lots of our members network all over the place...other chambers, (I like a lot of them). BNI, LBN and other networking groups that are around. And many folks spend a lot of time networking online.
Some companies do, some don't. You totally should ask. If you're out there working to bring in business for them, networking is a legitimate business expense.
All my best-
Terry
